Story synopsis
What do you do? That is what two filmmakers, MK Stevens and Tim Rockey, from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada would like to know. “What do you do?” is the mantra for their upcoming film project, OPTION5. The project is based on a question that is often asked at business interviews:
It’s Dark. You’re driving and find yourself at a bus stop in the middle of a rainstorm. At the bus stop you find an old friend that has once saved your life, the woman of your dreams, and an older person suffering from a heart attack. You only have one seat… What do you do?
The idea for this project started while MK Stevens was in film school. He stumbled upon the question, which immediately caught his interest. He then began to brainstorm a way to bring this question to the screen. The first draft followed Ben Richards as he came across a bus stop and was forced to face the very same situation. In the vein of Run Lola Run and Groundhog Day, Ben would repeat the scenario until he began to think creatively and discover the solution.
The concept of the project is simple. OPTION5 = 5 Options. Option 1: Ben does nothing and drives away only to find himself back at the bus stop. Option 2: He takes the old friend. Option 3 He takes the woman of his dreams. Option 4: He takes the suffering older person, all of which return him yet again to the bus stop. Until finally, Option 5. Once the draft was written, MK knew something was missing. The idea was great, he just didn’t know how to get the script there.
It wasn’t until a couple of years later, while revisiting old drafts of OPTION5, did MK figure out the missing element. OPTION5 is actually five short films in one. He then recruited the help of Tim Rockey, and a new idea was spawned. Why not enlist other filmmakers and make this a collaborative opportunity, an opportunity for different filmmakers to create separate and unique short films for each option. Use the same characters in different genres to tell their own story about what happens every time Ben makes a choice.
